One of my fondest memories of childhood is spending some time in the kitchen Saturday morning making donuts. Looking for something fun to do this Easter while the kids are home? Indulge in the nostalgic joy of making biscuit donuts. Transforming simple canned biscuits into golden delights in your kitchen, relish the sweet aroma and laughter-filled moments. The kids will love making them, being creative with toppings, but mostly they’ll love hanging out with you.
Making biscuit donuts isn’t just about the end result – it’s about the memories shared in the kitchen, especially those spent with loved ones like my mom and sister. As a child, I remember the anticipation as we gathered our ingredients and prepared to transform simple canned biscuits into something magical.
The process and the fun:
The process was always a joyous affair. Laughter, powder sugar-dusted fingers, and the sweet aroma of freshly fried dough. My mom would heat up the oil. My sister and I would eagerly press a thimble into the center of each biscuit. Creating the donut hole, which was fun to cook and decorate.
As the biscuits sizzled in the hot oil, we would chat and enjoy each other’s company. I loved watching the donuts puff up and turn golden brown. Knowing that soon they would be coated in sugary goodness.
Once they were ready, we would gather around the kitchen counter, eagerly dipping the warm donuts into bowls. Each one coated in powdered sugar, cinnamon and sugar, or glaze, each of us customizing our own creation.
But perhaps the best part of making biscuit donuts was sitting down as a family to enjoy our handiwork.

Description
Delicious, sticky, sweet, homemade biscuit donuts.
Ingredients
Flavors:
topping 1
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbsp cinnamon
Topping 2
3 Tbsp toasted almonds
1 1/2 Tbsp shredded coconut
Topping 3
1/2 cup of powdered sugar
Topping 4
1 cup powdered sugar
2–4 tsp of water (add a little at a time so it doesn’t become runny)
1 tsp vanilla
Making the Donuts:
2 cans of biscuits (Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits)
1 Thimble (Tool to use like a cookie cutter to make the donut hole)
1 skillet with straight sides
2 cups of coconut oil (Avocado oil was too heavy and didn’t cook them all the way through)
2 baking sheets with parchment paper (1 for placement after cooking, 1 for placement after decorating).
Instructions
- Prepare all the donut flavors. I like to use large flat bowls to mix each of the flavors, in order to have room to coat them.
- Heat the coconut oil until it’s hot and ready (frying temperature).
- In the mean time while the oil is heating, lay each of the donuts out on a cutting board.
- Use the thimble to cut out the center of the biscuit. Save the donut holes to cook and decorate.
- Add each donut to the oil, cooking 4 at a time.
- Cook until light golden brown on one side, then flip to cook the other side.
- Take each donut out of the oil with a slotted spatula, onto the parchment covered baking sheet.
- Once they are finished cooking, decorate them with whichever flavors you like.
- Roll each donut in Cinnamon and sugar, powdered sugar, vanilla glaze, or vanilla glaze with crushed toasted almonds and shredded coconut.
